Norfolk has a number of exercise and activity referral schemes currently running, but there is no formal scheme for Norwich. Norwich, as Norfolk's only City and the County's most populated (132,000 people) and diverse settlement presents its own challenges around socio-economic status, health inequalities and areas of high prevalence of inactivity and sedentary behaviour. Put simply, Norwich is in need of an activity referral scheme.
Active Norfolk and Benefit Health and Fitness will be working in partnership to bring an activity referral scheme to life. Active Norfolk, launched on 1st November 2006, and is one of the County Sports Partnerships created by Sport England, tasked with increasing the levels of participation in sport and physical activity across the county. Benefit Health and Fitness are an experienced provider of exercise referral across Norfolk.
NARS will be a class based scheme spread across 4 central venues, with varying activities including low intensity circuit classes and pool based exercise. All of the classes will be led by REPs level 3 Advanced Instructors who will hold an Exercise Referral qualification.
